The EU-Database

The project database is daunting to navigate when you first encounter it. You must start by choosing “Host Organisation” from the menu fields. You can also select a specific country from the list. However, it might be difficult to find a project you like in that country.

I suggest that you select your project by theme. This way you are more likely to find a project that is interesting & that you want to do each day. If you are lucky then maybe that project is also in the country you wanted to work in.

Project descriptions:

There is a lot of information in the project descriptions & it can take some time to understand what the organisation does & what your project involves. Sometimes the project descriptions are laid out in a clear way and other times not.

I suggest that you scan over the project descriptions looking for key words. Then once you have decided that it is a project that you want to do, you can then read the description in more detail.

Writing applications:

You should get your application letter or CV checked by someone before you apply, particularly if you are applying for a project in an English speaking country.

Although you do not need to have perfect English, it will help you to make sure you don’t have any stupid errors in your letter or say something which doesn’t translate from Swedish to English very well.

Finall word…

Overall you should remain motivated and not give up applying. You may have to write several motivation letters to several projects before you get the project that you want to do. However, your persistence will pay off.

Eventually you will be making a difference to a community somewhere in Europe whilst gaining new friends & experiences that you will remember for a long time to come.
